If you are a student, you will most probably take color printing and binding for granted. In schools this service is something, which we never think about and do without giving it a second thought. There are many industries, which will require you to print out different flyers or pamphlets to hand out. This is something that will cost the company a large amount of money, if it is not done the correct way, before you dish out the money to do color printing.

Types of printing on the basis of printers

Offset lithography Offset printing method is offered by almost every printer. This process is used to print any variety of different textured materials, this process uses ink economically and requires little time to set up the press. It is used for almost all printing on paper, including newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc. The paper products that are inserted into CD jewel cases are printed using the offset technique, as are almost all alternative cardboard packaging materials.

Screen printing Screen printing is also known as silk screening, this process forces ink through a screen, like a stencil pattern. Often used for non-flat goods, this method is best equipped to print on items like mugs, clothing, ring binders, bumper stickers or billboards.Screen printing is of two type Metal & Wood Metal frames, both static (solid) and retentionable, have become the industry standard. Retentionables do not require the use of adhesive products.Metal frames have been replaced by wood because they do not warp from water like wood frames do. The most commonly used types of wood are cedar and pine. Pine is preferred because it is more water resistant while it is light weight. Metal screens are made out of aluminum or steel. Aluminum is commonly preferred because it is light weight, yet sturdy. There are some applications where steel is preferred such as very large printing frames used for long printing runs.

Thermography This is a print finishing process that produces a raised image. In thermography, a special powder is added to the ink printed on the paper. The printed piece is heated and the powder and ink mixture dries to form a raised effect on the paper. This process is mainly used for stationery.
